Boise Public Art: New Installation Revealed

Redwood Park in Boise has a new addition. “Passage” by James Peterson is a new public art display paying homage to the history of the Ustick Townsite.

The goal of the piece is said to “draw inspiration from the natural beauty and the delightful experience of strolling among fruit gardens.”

Peterson is a sculptor, using many different materials and colors to elicit a response. This new piece is no exception, made up of a series of arches cut to look like trees, filled with a multitude of colors.

“Making art that interacts, inspires, and delights people is what I wish to offer the world,” Peterson says on his website.

The Ustick Townsite used to be full of apple orchards, which Peterson aimed to capture in “Passage.”

The project has been in the works since 2023, when Peterson was selected after a nationwide call for artists to fill the park with a new sculpture.
