REDMOND, WA – 2025/08/29 07:44:09 – Microsoft has entered the arena with two new AI models, “Mai-Voice-1” and “Mai-1-PREVIEW”, designed to rival “GPT-5“, “Deepseek“, and other prominent AI systems. The announcement signals Microsoft’s intent to become a major player in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

According to a statement reported by The Verg magazine, the “Mai-Voice-1” audio model excels at generating accurate speech in under a second using onyl a single graphics card. Meanwhile, “Mai-1-PREVIEW”, a text model, offers a preview of the enhanced capabilities planned for Microsoft’s “Copilot” assistant.

The audio model is already integrated into services like Copilot Daily, which provides summarized news briefings, and is used to create podcast-style audio content for simplified explanations. Users can experiment with “Mai-Voice-1” on the Copilot Labs platform, adjusting the tone and style of the generated audio.

Mustafa Suleiman, CEO of the Microsoft Intelligence Unit, told Semafor that the models prioritize efficiency and cost reduction. “Mai-Voice-1” operates with just one graphics card, while the “Mai-1-PREVIEW” text model was trained using approximately 15,000 NVIDIA H100 cards.

“The art of training for models is based mainly on choosing the ideal data, and avoiding the waste of mathematical capabilities on needless symbols that did not add real value to the model.”

In comparison,Suleiman noted that competing models like Grok require over 100,000 cards of the same type.

Semafor reports that despite developing these independent models and using “Copilot” for testing, Microsoft still relies heavily on OpenAI’s GPT technology, in which it has invested billions.

However, the progress of independent models underscores Microsoft’s ambition to directly compete in the AI market, even if achieving parity with leading companies takes time.

Suleiman also revealed a five-year roadmap with continuous investments every three months. He emphasized that this structured approach is crucial to ensure the success of Microsoft’s independent AI development, especially amid growing concerns about a potential AI “bubble.”
