Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation in Průhonice Near Prague

A gas leak in Průhonice near Prague led to the evacuation of approximately 100 people on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred after a gas pipe was damaged during road work, according to fire officials.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene shortly before 11:00 AM after the gas leak was reported. Upon arrival, they immediately began to secure the area and collaborate with gas company workers to pinpoint the source and extent of the leak.

Firefighters’ intervention in Průhonice near Prague

Firefighter spokesman Jan Sýkora stated, “Upon arrival, it was clear that the gas leak was still ongoing, so we started to close the immediate surroundings and in cooperation with the gas workers checked where the gas could spill.” He added that the teams were meticulously checking channels,shafts,and other potential accumulation points.
Due to the complexity of containing a large gas leak, authorities made the decision to evacuate the immediate vicinity. “Currently, about 100 people from adjacent buildings were evacuated,” said Sýkora, also noting the evacuation of a nearby hotel. An evacuation bus was deployed to assist.
Firefighters also implemented traffic control measures, including the disconnection of traffic lights within the closed area. Excavation work is underway to reach the damaged pipe. “at present, excavation work has been launched to expose the injured management. Because the gas is still escaping, we do water streams,” the spokesman added.
Multiple fire units, including professional and volunteer teams, along with gas company personnel and police, are on scene.
