New VW T-Roc: First Look & Update Details

by Archynetys Economy Desk

Update from August 21, 2025: There is already a short video of the wildly glued new T-Roc. From Volkswagen Portugal. There is a reason for this: The T-Roc runs in Europe at the Volkswagen Autoeuropa plant in Setúbal (Palmela), Portugal, from the assembly line, while the variant T-Roc Cabriolet is manufactured at the Osnabrück plant, Germany.

38,626. VW was able to re-allow so many T-Roc in Germany in the first half of 2025. He is the second most popular model of the brand behind the Golf. Even though it has been on the market since 2017. But it is also clear that a successor is slowly but surely needed.

Thomas Schäfer, brand boss of VW, has now announced the second generation of the T-Roc on LinkedIn. In the form of a teaser image that already allows certain conclusions. Despite the sticker, it can be seen that the design of the current T-Roc was skillfully developed. There is also some family similarity to the larger Tiguan.

Schäfer himself remains very vague in his text on the picture. Literally translated he writes: “I can hardly wait to introduce the new T-Roc-with a fresh look, lots of new technologies and revised drive strands. Stay tuned!”

We can add: On August 27, 2025 it will be ready. Then you will find all information and pictures for the new T-Roc on our site. In addition, the second generation will probably be on Volkswagen’s trade fair highlights at the IAA Mobility in Munich, which begins on September 8th.

With regard to the engines, the new T-Roc should be based on the current offer of the VW Golf. Since model maintenance 2024, this has been offering a newly structured engine range. For the petrol engines, the 1.5 TSI replaces the previous 1.0 TSI and is offered in two performance levels with 116 and 150 hp. It is available both conventional and as a mild hybrid with 48-volt technology (ETSI) and is usually combined with a seven-speed DSG. The 2.0 TDI with 116 and 150 hp should be preserved in the diesel program.

A plug-in hybrid could be new: we tap the 1.5 TSI EHYBRID with 204 hp system output. It remains questionable whether the T-Roc R will continue. This has already been decided for the T-Roc Cabriolet. Here the production definitely ends in 2027 without a successor.
