WhatsApp: Has anyone saved my number? How to find out
If you meet new people, you often want to end up in your phone book. But was it saved? This can be found out at WhatsApp – although this is not intended.
WhatsApp is the most popular messenger of the Germans, millions use it to keep in touch with friends and family, to clarify work or school issues or to give insights into their lives in the story function. However, WhatsApp has not provided a function: You can use the messenger to check whether others have saved their own number.
This works via a feature that is actually intended for something completely different: the so -called broadcasts. These allow you to send messages to several contacts at the same time without knowing them. Instead of creating a group, the messages are sent as normal individual chats. And you can take advantage of that.
WhatsApp: How to check whether your number has been saved
The broadcasts have a protective function: In order to prevent spam, the news is only received by people who have saved the sender in the address book. Therefore, they are also suitable for checking that.
To do this, you have to proceed as follows:
- Open the Broadcast function by first tapping the plus at the top right and then on “new Broadcast” in the chat overview.
- Now choose two contacts: the person you want to check and another from whom you know that you are stored in their contacts.
- Enter a non -binding message that can be aimed at both. For example: “Well, how are you?”.
The message is then sent to both contacts independently. Now it only means: wait.
Read or not?
Because of the safety measure of WhatsApps, your message will only arrive if your number has also been saved. So appear in the chat view the two gray hooks for “delivered” or the blue hooks for “read”, then you know that this person has saved them as contact. If it stays with a catch for a long time, you have successfully sent the message – but it has not arrived.
How reliable is this method?
Even if the trick usually works – you shouldn’t rely too much on it. If the person has no internet connection, of course, the message cannot be delivered during this time. The same applies if the person of WhatsApp simply did not install. If only one catch appears, so too little time can have passed or a WhatsApp muffle on the other side.
But if two catches come, the matter is certain: your number is in the address book.
