About two years ago, Europe had already orbit the first satellite of its new meteorological generation. This first equipment, of the “imaging” type, captures images at regular intervals in various wavelengths of the spectrum, making it possible to establish weather forecasts of great precision.
This time, it is a “sounder” (Stern). The latter provides a 3D profile of the humidity and temperature of the atmosphere, which adds “an additional dimension to weather forecasts”, according to Mr. Van Den Braembussche.
