After 12 years of service to the arts in Idaho, a man with a long career in banking and civic engagement is stepping away from his role.
Steve Allred, longtime commissioner with the Idaho Commission on the Arts, has announced his retirement from the organization. His third term will wrap up on June 30.
Allred began his service with the commission in 2012 and has served as the chair since 2021. He also retired from his 39-year career in banking in 2024 from Ireland Bank. He also worked for Zions Bank, Wells Fargo and First Security Bank.
He has lived in Montpelier, Idaho, for 30 years and has been involved in many different nonprofit, civic and economic development organizations.
“Steve has been a steady and thoughtful voice in advancing the commission’s mission,” said Laura Curry, executive director of the Idaho Commission on the Arts. “His vision and integrity have helped us navigate challenges and embrace new opportunities. We’re grateful for his years of service.”
Allred was appointed to his role with the commission by both Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter and Gov. Brad Little. The organization stated that his leadership has helped it to maintain fiscal responsibility, strengthen its statewide arts programs and foster more access to cultural opportunities for the state.
“Serving on the commission has been one of the highlights of my civic life,” Allred said. “It’s been an honor to help support Idaho’s vibrant artistic communities and work with so many talented individuals who make the arts a vital part of our state’s identity.”
With an interest in natural resources and Idaho’s outdoor heritage, the commission stated that Allred has said he would like to continue with public service, especially in those areas he’s passionate about.
