Once celebrated for its ancient wonders, Egypt is now gaining recognition for its rapidly expanding music industry. The rise of streaming platforms, especially Spotify, has enabled Egyptian artists to reach international audiences and achieve unprecedented success.

Spotify’s recent Loud & Clear report from Egypt revealed significant growth in the region. Royalties earned by Egyptian artists on Spotify have increased more than fivefold since 2022, including a 100% increase between 2023 and 2024.

“Egyptian music is having a moment-and it’s just the beginning,” stated Mark Abou Jaoude, Spotify’s Head of Music for MENA and Pakistan. “Streaming isn’t just about getting heard anymore; it’s about building real careers and reshaping culture.”

Independent artists are driving this growth, accounting for over 90% of spotify royalties in Egypt in 2024. Genres like Mahraganat and Egyptian hip-hop have moved from underground venues to mainstream streaming charts, redefining Egypt’s contemporary sound.

Global Appeal of Egyptian Music

The demand for Egyptian music extends globally, with over 80% of royalties originating from international listeners in countries like the US, UK, Germany, Brazil, India, and Indonesia. In 2024, Egyptian music was discovered over 480 million times by first-time Spotify listeners.

Domestically, Egyptian music streams rose by over 70% last year. Since Spotify launched in the region in 2018, local listening has surged by nearly 450%, with over 80% of Spotify Egypt‘s Daily Top 50 featuring Egyptian artists.

Arabic Music on the Rise

Arabic is becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing musical languages, positioning Egypt as a key player.
