U.S. Strikes on Iranian Nuclear Sites Draw Mixed Reactions From Lawmakers
Following U.S.military action against three Iranian nuclear sites, political reactions have been sharply divided, with some praising the move and others questioning its legality and potential consequences.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., expressed his support, stating, “Good. This was the right call. The regime deserves it. well done, President @realDonaldTrump.”
Democratic Sen. john Fetterman of Pennsylvania also lauded the action, saying, “As I’ve long maintained, this was the correct move by @POTUS. iran is the worldS leading sponsor of terrorism and cannot have nuclear capabilities. I’m grateful for and salute the finest military in the world.”
“President Trump made the right call and the ayatollahs should recall his warning not to target americans.”
Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, emphasized a “peace through strength” approach, while former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz called Trump a “peacemaker,” suggesting a limited, targeted operation.
House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, R-ala., stated that President Trump “made the correct decision to strike Iran’s nuclear sites,” arguing that iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons necessitated the use of force.
Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., echoed this sentiment, asserting that “We could never allow Iran to get nuclear weapons,” and that President Trump “made the right call.”
Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyoming, described Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons as “the greatest threat to the safety of the United States and the world,” supporting Trump’s decision.
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La.,said that the U.S. “military operations in Iran should serve as a clear reminder to our adversaries and allies that President Trump means what he says.” He added that trump had given Iran “every chance to make a deal, but Iran refused to commit to a nuclear disarmament agreement.”
Johnson further stated that Trump’s “decisive action prevents the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism, which chants ‘Death to America,’ from obtaining the most lethal weapon on the planet.”
though, Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., argued that the attacks were “not constitutional.”
Rep. Ro Khanna, a Democrat from California, echoed Massie’s sentiments, stating, “Trump struck Iran without any authorization of Congress. We need to immediately return to DC and vote on @RepThomasMassie and my War Powers Resolution to prevent America from being dragged into another endless Middle East war.”
