Following the inauguration of Kai Tak Sports Park, the Red Hall will shift its focus to accommodate more concerts, according to Luo Shupei, Director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau.
Speaking at the Wealth Management Expo, Luo Shupei highlighted the previous scarcity of performance venues. The launch of Kai Tak Sports Park elevates Hong Kong’s sports and entertainment offerings. The Bureau of Culture,Sports and Tourism, after thorough assessments, aims to strategically redefine the roles of various performance spaces. Historically, the Red Hall favored sports events, limiting availability for concert promoters. The goal now is to allocate more Red Hall dates to concert organizers.
The bureau also plans to earmark specific venues for long-running shows and Cantonese opera, ensuring access for performing arts groups. This initiative will be implemented at venues managed by the Los Angeles and Culture Department. This complements the upcoming key performing arts project plan, designed to foster the creation and sustained performances of local large-scale productions, enriching Hong Kong’s nightlife for tourists.
The Department of Resources and Culture intends to optimize venue resource allocation, opening up more slots for diverse artistic groups. Furthermore, several new performance venues are slated for completion in the coming years, encompassing SAR government, West Kowloon Cultural District, and private sector developments, aligning with the integrated growth of the cultural, sports, and tourism sectors.

He Jingkang, a legislative Council member of the New Democratic Party, who closely monitors the concert economy, hailed the director’s declaration as “great good news.” He noted ongoing discussions between the bureau and various organizers and singers regarding the Red Hall’s schedule. He Jingkang anticipates increased opportunities for singers to perform at the Red Hall in the coming year.
