Grand Reims Residents Prioritize Biodiversity and Green Initiatives

Survey reveals strong support for environmental action and improved urban living.

A recent survey conducted in the Grand Reims area in the spring of 2025 has revealed key insights into residents’ attitudes and priorities regarding climate change and urban growth. The study, carried out by the Climate Action Observatory 2025 barometer, engaged over 1,000 residents to gather data on their concerns and desired actions.

The initial findings from the survey highlight a strong consensus among residents regarding the causes and impacts of climate change, as well as their willingness to adopt more enduring practices.

According to the study, 95% of Grand Reims residents believe that climate change is primarily caused by human activity, with younger residents expressing particularly strong agreement. Stéphane Bernard, from the Reims Urban Planning Agency, noted that many residents are already experiencing the effects of climate change in their daily lives, assigning it a significance score of 7.3.

Residents of Grand Reims have reportedly made meaningful changes to their consumption habits to reduce waste and promote sustainability. Stéphane Bernard stated that some residents “heat less their logement pour faire des économies et puis être aussi plus écologiques,” while others “adoptent des éco-gestes” or favor “les transports en commun ou des mobilités douces.” There has also been an increase in the purchase of second-hand or refurbished equipment.

Obstacles and future Outlook

“Les habitants souhaitent davantage d’actions en faveur de la biodiversité et de la végétalisation.”

nearly half of the residents identified inadequate public transportation infrastructure as a barrier to further change. Others cited a lack of financial resources to replace polluting equipment. Although a slight majority believe their individual actions have a limited impact (score of 6.3), 75% expressed a desire to do more in terms of sobriety and ecological transition, especially among younger people.

Priorities for Improving Quality of Life

The development of soft transport, with more cycle paths and bicycle parking, and also the strengthening of carpooling, are also popular.
