A trailblazer in women’s, family, and home programming, Castellanos leaves behind a lasting legacy.


Socorro Castellanos, a pioneering figure in the landscape of Dominican television, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 84. Her contributions to women’s, family, and home-oriented programs have left an indelible mark on the industry.

Designer Leonel Lirio, a close friend, confirmed to Listín Diario that Socorro Castellanos died at approximately 8:30 PM, surrounded by her family in her home.

The funeral services for Castellanos will be held at the Church Risen at Puerta del Cielo, beginning at 10:00 AM on thursday, followed by a Christian burial at 3:00 PM.

Her career in television was marked by meaningful achievements. Sharing driving with her, was one of the greatest awards that life gave me! It was always open with me to let me learn from her experience. She is the lady of communication and my mother in these needs.”

In her later years, she contributed to the radio program “With the five senses” on Station 97.7 FM, part of the Diario Listín Radio Division.

“Socorro Castellanos at 9” was one of her more recent television ventures, airing on Televida, Channel 41.
