The Skate Park of Alessandria is experiencing a surge of “new energy” following the completion of the first phase of its redevelopment. This project, supported by Alegas, Iren group company, and the Common, aims to enhance the skater area within Carrà park.

Recent improvements include the installation of a fence around Skate Park, with new structures designed specifically for skateboarding and skating to be added soon. The 16,000 euro investment was carefully planned to address the needs of the park’s regular users.

One meaningful issue was the “failure to comply with the area by other park visitors,” leading to skaters having to navigate around people, children, and stray balls from the nearby football field. The new fencing is expected to improve safety and respect for the space.

While the gate is still to be mounted, the existing fence is already fostering “greater awareness and respect for spaces.” According to Daniele, one of the skater of the Carrà park, although some people still sit on the ramps, the situation is “definitely better.” The Skate Park serves as a central meeting point for about ten skaters, some traveling from other cities in the province. Daniele, who comes from Valenza, notes that skaters initially gathered in Alessandria “for necessity” due to the lack of alternatives, but now find it increasingly enjoyable. Skaters have also contributed to maintaining the park by repairing asphalt and filling holes. However, a entirely smooth flooring remains a long-term goal due to funding constraints.

Improvements to the Skate Park and other sports areas in Carrà park are being addressed “Based on urgencies.” Sports and sports systems councilor, Vittoria Oneto, emphasized that skater safety is a top priority. Additional plans include fixing the football field fence and enhancing lighting. Progress is being made “one step at a time” based on “A priority scale,” according to the councilor.

Gianni Ivaldi, Assterio to green areas, pointed out that Carrà park is just one of many green spaces in need of attention, directing a message to Luca Ottolini, CEO of Alegas, suggesting further collaboration. Ottolini responded positively, reaffirming Alegas’ dedication to “For a more dynamic city, livable and close to the new generations.”

To celebrate thes improvements, a Skate Park party scheduled for Friday 6 june will feature sport, art, and community engagement. The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a DJ set with urban music and hip-hop, Street art workshops, skate lessons with a qualified coach, and demonstrations by professional skaters.Masterclasses for all skill levels will also be offered, culminating in a choreographed show at 7pm.
