Liverpool in Pursuit of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong in Potential Record Transfers

Liverpool are reportedly in discussions to sign Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, with other possible transfers and contract negotiations also underway.

Liverpool’s summer transfer activity has commenced, with the club engaged in discussions to secure Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong. According to Liverpool chair, Tom Werner, the club is actively pursuing these players.

Liverpool are considered the frontrunners to acquire Wirtz after he declined offers from Bayern Munich and Manchester City.Negotiations are underway with Bayer Leverkusen, who are seeking £126m for the Germany international. This fee would surpass Liverpool’s current record transfer of £85m for Darwin Núñez in 2022. The club aims to negotiate a deal with Leverkusen that includes a lower initial payment supplemented by achievable add-ons.

During Arne Slot’s first season, Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owners, made modest investments, acquiring Federico Chiesa from Juventus for a potential £12m and Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili for £29m. The club is now prepared to invest considerably,hoping to finalize deals for Wirtz and Frimpong early in the transfer window. Frimpong has a £30m release clause.

When questioned about the transfer window, Werner stated: “It’s already busy.” He added that he anticipates the team will be even stronger as they defend their title: “We go again. It never gets old, winning.We owe it to all of our supporters to bring back a team even better next season.”

Slot expressed his desire to have new players in place early, with pre-season training scheduled to commence on 8 July. He commented: “This club doesn’t start [on transfers] after today or from today onwards. there is so much hard work already done behind the scenes this season to find out which targets we have and try to sign them. I have all the confidence that if we have addressed the right player, we try to sign that player but let’s see when that is going to happen and if that’s going to happen, because I’m very happy with the squad we already have.”

Liverpool’s transfer budget is expected to increase through player sales. Núñez, Chiesa, Caoimhin Kelleher, Kostas Tsimikas and Ben Doak are among those who might leave this summer.

Ibrahima konaté’s long-term future remains uncertain as he enters the final year of his contract. Konate confirmed: “Progressing? Not really. My agent met the club last week but I don’t know what will happen. I cannot say what my agent said to me but yeah, we will see what will happen.”
