The original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is making its way to modern gaming platforms, a year after its sequel’s release.

The “Master Crafted Edition,” a definitive version of the third-person shooter, is being developed by SneakyBox. According to producer Vaidas Mikelskas, the update is a “thoughtful restoration […] a respectful dialog between past and present, preserving what made the original special while making it shine for a new generation of players.” The new edition includes graphical enhancements, a modern user interface and control scheme, updated visuals for the Orks to align with the current franchise canon, and “over 100” new voice lines.

Originally developed by Relic Entertainment, the first Space Marine launched in 2011 and received generally favorable reviews.While two sequels were initially planned, they were canceled following the closure of publisher THQ. Sega acquired the publishing rights after acquiring Relic two years later and re-released the game on PC in 2021. Saber Interactive later revealed its progress of the sequel for Focus Entertainment, which was released in 2024 to positive reviews and has a follow-up in development.

Sega retains the rights to the first Warhammer 40K: Space Marine but has not yet announced a PlayStation 5 version of the Master Crafted Edition. The game will be available on PC and Xbox Series X|S, as well as through Xbox Game Pass, starting June 10.
