The Enduring Union of Bordeaux-Bègles Rugby: A Tale of Transition adn Triumph

From local rivalries to European glory, the story of Union bordeaux Bègles (UBB) is a testament to triumphant integration and deeply rooted local identity.

As Louis Bielle-Biarrey breaks away to score a try against Northampton, supporters at the Paul-Langevin school in Bègles chant “Union! Union!” This chant celebrates the merger in 2006 of SBUC and CABBG, a union that overcame years of intense rivalry when both clubs faced potential collapse.

Stéphane, originally from Agen but now a Béglais local, reflects on this successful transition: “What happened today is the story of a successful transition from field rugby to cities rugby. At its beginnings, the CAB,which became CABBG,was a small town club… If he is european champion today, it is because he managed to grow based on the large neighboring town.”
