The Chungbuk-do Animal Sanitation Laboratory will implement special avian influenza (AI) prevention measures for 20 days, starting May 23rd and continuing untill next month, according to Reporter Jeon Chang-hae.
Even tho AI-related movement restrictions were lifted on May 19th,concerns arose due to the spread of high-pathogenic AI in Brazil,a major chicken importer, and the recurrence of AI in a Gwangju poultry sales business.
On May 23rd, the Animal Sanitation Laboratory conducted inspections of 351 poultry farms and related facilities in the province, and the AI virus was not detected.
The province plans to maintain this testing system regularly, approving poultry movement only when the poultry originates from another farm or is being shipped to a slaughterhouse.
Disinfection efforts will be supported by mobilizing control vehicles.
Official Statement and Previous Outbreaks
Byun Jung-woon, director of Animal Sanitation Testing, stated, “We will do our best to prevent farmers’ damage and stabilize the supply and demand of chicken.”

Last winter, eight cases of high-pathogenic AI occurred, including three in Eumseong-gun and two in Cheongju-si and Jincheon-gun.
The outbreaks affected three duck farms and five laying hen farms.
As a result, 1,535,000 poultry from 21 farms, including affected and nearby farms, were culled.
