New Leadership for Education, Family, and Youth Affairs

In a significant progress within the German Bundestag, Saskia Box, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), has been elected as the chair of the influential Committee on Education, Family, Women, Seniors, and Youth. The election took place during the committee’s inaugural session on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, under the guidance of Bundestag Vice president Josephine Ortleb, also of the SPD.

Box secured her position through a secret ballot, garnering a majority vote from the committee’s 38 members. This appointment signals a renewed focus on key social policy areas,particularly as Germany navigates evolving demographic trends and the ongoing need for educational reform.
