• 260 thousand pesos were distributed among 60 winners of three artisanal competitions
Morelia, Michoacán, May 18, 2025.- Within the framework of the 484th anniversary of the Foundation of Morelia, the awards of the 47th edition of the state pottery contest, the 28th edition of the State Contest of Plumaria Art and the State Contest of Cantery Works, where the 60 best pieces with an amount of 260 thousand pesos were rewarded.
In the 47th edition of the state pottery contest, the Special Prize went to Jonathan Ociel Reyes Torres, originally from the town of Capula, for the sculpture of a catrina in Floreada casserole.
The artisan Maribel Maya Aguirre won the Special Prize in the 28th edition of the state contest of feather art, with a Virgin of Pátzcuaro. While the craftsman José Carlos Chacón Correa, was the winner of the Special Prize of the 28th edition of the State Cantery Contest, for the elaboration of a niche with Virgin.
The general director of the House of Crafts (Casart), Cástor Estrada Robles congratulated all the artisan people who participated and especially those who won in the artisanal competitions, mentioned that more and more artisan and artisans from other locations are integrated to register their pieces, such as Turícuaro and San Nicolás Obispo who participate in the Lapidary branch with the elaboration of Molcaje.
