Germán Vargas Lleras, the former Vice President of Colombia, has been seen in a recent social media post looking well and in good spirits as he recovers from a scheduled neurosurgical procedure. The surgery,which took place on april 23rd at the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá,was previously announced by the medical facility. Vargas Lleras himself authorized the release of information regarding his health, a practice he has maintained throughout his years of grappling with various health challenges.

This week, a photograph surfaced on Vargas lleras’s Instagram account showing him smiling alongside his daughter, Clemencia Vargas, and his grandson, Agustín. While an official discharge date from the hospital has not been released, the image suggests that he is now recuperating in the comfort of his home.
A History of Health Challenges
The former Vice President’s health has been a recurring concern over the years. Just last month, in early April 2025, he underwent another surgical procedure in bogotá to remove a screw from his knee.This hardware was initially implanted following a bicycle accident in May 2022. the accident, which occurred while cycling in Duitama, resulted in multiple fractures to his femur and hip, as well as a important knee injury.
Following the 2022 cycling accident, Vargas Lleras described his recovery as arduous and lengthy, requiring extensive physiotherapy. Dissatisfied with the initial surgical outcome, he even sought corrective surgery in the United States. Recovery has been hell, but in this life everything must be overcome,
he stated at the time, reflecting his resilience.
Vargas Lleras’s medical history includes several other significant events. Notably, in 2003, he tragically lost several fingers in a bombing attack while serving as a senator.He has also faced diagnoses of meningioma, a hepatic cyst, appendicitis, and a growth in his neck.
