In a solemn event, the Studierendenwerk Frankfurt am Main opened the hostel “Home” near the Frankfurt Westbahnhof. In addition to guests from politics, university, the city of Frankfurt am Main, the German Student Center and other institutions, the former ESA astronaut Thomas Reiter was also amazed at the hostel designed in a space look.
This first hostel in Frankfurt, which was specially designed for students, offers space for 222 guests in innovative Tiny rooms and spacious sleep capsules-a real oasis for intergalactic travelers.
The motto „WELCOME VOYAGER“ is emblazoned in large letters on the textile wallpaper in the spacious lounge area of the hostel “Home”, which is designed in the modern spacelook. Like astronauts who travel through the vastness of the universe, guests often find far away from their home planet. International students and guests of the universities in particular will find temporary and inexpensive accommodation in the “Home”. Interns, tourists and business travelers are also cordially invited – everyone finds their personal space here.
The hostel rooms are designed as tiny rooms to offer inexpensive accommodation options and are mainly aimed at individuals. There are four barrier -free double rooms and two barrier -free triple rooms. The area with the 30 capsules is in the basement, where the heart of the space station beats. All sleeping options can be booked for stays from one night to three months, and students benefit from special conditions.
Inside, the topic of space is consistently implemented and accompanies the guests from the lounge to the corridors and rooms to the basement of the building. Here, in the futuristic sleeping capsule area, guests can look into space through several views. The Tiny rooms are equipped with numerous gadgets as well as clever traffic options and innovative bathroom solutions, such as an infrared heating integrated in the mirror. The bathroom door at the same time serves as a shower cabin door – a true masterpiece of engineering, which would even impress the Enterprise crew.
Other amenities for the guests include, in addition to the combination of a relaxed ambience in the middle of the living city vibe of the Bockenheim district, a quick WiFi, a large common area, co-working spaces and a washing machine with dryer. Guests can also use a free package station to receive mail and packages. An individually bookable breakfast buffet ensures an energetic start to the day and is supplemented by snack and beverage machines.
The home offers a retreat in the middle of the city and is the ideal starting point for intergalactic trips to universities in Frankfurt and throughout the Rhein-Main area thanks to the proximity to the Frankfurt Westbahnhof. If you prefer to travel by bike or car, you will also find charging stations for e-bikes and electric cars in addition to bicycle and car parking spaces. The building and the structural and technical systems were established by Instone Real Estate Development GmbH on behalf of the Nassauische Homelstätzt Wohnungs- und Development Society mbH.

Prof. Dr. Steffen TeichertDeputy of the Association Council Chairman of the German Student Center.
Thomas Reiterformer astronaut at the ESA, says: “I am very pleased that the design of the hostel was inspired by space travel!
