Tributes in the Chamber of Deputies
During a recent morning session, the LXVI Legislature, self-proclaimed the “Year of Indigenous Women” under the banner of “Sovereignty and Social Justice,” paused to acknowledge the passing of two remarkable women: Sandra Estefana Domínguez Martínez, a Mixe indigenous activist and lawyer, and Diana Huerta Ramírez, a young organ donor.
Remembering Sandra Estefana domínguez Martínez
Deputy Martha Aracely Cruz Jiménez of the labor Party (PT) requested a moment of silence for Sandra Estefana Domínguez Martínez, a dedicated Mixe activist from the Ayuujk Nation. Domínguez Martínez, whose funeral is scheduled for tomorrow, was a staunch advocate for indigenous women, notably those of the Mixe community. Her work involved addressing sensitive issues, including the unauthorized sharing of their photographs within government circles in Oaxaca. the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear.
Indigenous activists frequently enough face significant challenges and risks. According to a 2024 report by Global Witness, land and environmental defenders, many of whom are indigenous, continue to be murdered at alarming rates, highlighting the dangers associated with advocating for indigenous rights and environmental protection.
Honoring diana Huerta Ramírez’s Gift of Life
Deputy Liliana Ortiz Pérez of the National Action Party (PAN) called for a minute of silence to honor Diana Huerta Ramírez,a 28-year-old who exemplified generosity through organ donation. Ortiz Pérez emphasized that Huerta Ramírez’s decision to donate her organs offered hope and life to others, leaving a lasting legacy of solidarity. She extended heartfelt condolences to Carlos Martín Huerta and the Huerta Ramírez family.
Organ donation rates vary substantially worldwide. In spain, for example, a presumed consent system contributes to high donation rates, while other countries rely on explicit consent. Raising awareness about the impact of organ donation remains crucial in saving lives and transforming tragedy into hope.

Legislative Business and Future Sessions
beyond the tributes, the session included routine legislative business. The Federal Economic commission’s first quarterly report, covering activities from January 1 to March 31, 2025, was received and later referred to the Commission of Economy, commerce and Competitiveness for review.
The board of Directors also announced that initiatives and propositions outlined in the agenda would be channeled to the appropriate commissions, with details published in the Parliamentary Gazette, adhering to articles 100 and 102 of the Chamber of deputies’ regulations.
Following the morning session, deputies were requested to remain for an ordinary evening session to be held in person.
