Tensions Rise at Bribery Trial

During proceedings at the Central Jakarta District Court, supporters of Kristiyanto forcibly removed four individuals they accused of being “intruders.” The incident occurred as the court was preparing to hear witness testimonies in the alleged bribery and obstruction of justice case against Kristiyanto.

Witnesses Testify in High-Profile Case

The trial focuses on allegations that Hasto Kristiyanto obstructed the inquiry into a bribery case involving Harun Masiku,a former legislative candidate from PDIP. Masiku has been a fugitive as 2020. Kristiyanto is also accused of bribing Wahyu Setiawan, a former Commissioner of the General Elections Commission (KPU), with Rp600 million (approximately $40,000 USD based on current exchange rates).The alleged bribe was intended to influence the appointment of a replacement member of parliament.

During the session, the prosecution presented three key witnesses:

  • Arief Budiman, former Commissioner of the indonesian KPU (2012-2017 and 2017-2022)
  • Wahyu Setiawan, former KPU Commissioner (2017-2022)
  • Agustiani Tio Fridelina, former member of the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu)

Notably, both Wahyu Setiawan and Agustiani Tio Fridelina are former convicts in a related bribery case concerning the replacement of members of the Indonesian Parliament for the 2019-2024 period.

Accusations and Previous Convictions

Prosecutors allege that Hasto Kristiyanto, along with Donny Tri Istiqomah and saeful Bahri, orchestrated the bribery of Wahyu Setiawan to ensure Harun Masiku’s appointment. while Saeful Bahri has been convicted in the case, Harun Masiku remains at large. Donny Tri Istiqomah has been named a suspect, but his case is still pending.
