La Ciotat Launches Cinema Internship Program for aspiring Filmmakers


Igniting Passion: La Ciotat’s Initiative to Cultivate Future cinema Professionals

In a bid to inspire and train teh next generation of filmmakers, the city of La Ciotat, in partnership wiht the Regional Association of South Technicians (Arts) and TP2L, has launched a groundbreaking cinema internship program. This initiative aims to provide young individuals with hands-on experience and insights into the diverse world of cinema professions.

A Week of Discovery: Immersive Training in the Heart of Filmmaking

The inaugural week-long internship, hosted by the city’s cinema mission and youth service, welcomed nine eager participants – six young women and three young men. Delphine Camolli, representing the Regional Association of South Technicians (Arts), emphasized the invaluable opportunity these young people have, stating, You have a lot of luck because your internship teachers have a lot of experience.

Frédérique Angelier, head of the city’s cinema mission, noted the strong interest in the program, stating, Ten young people interested in audiovisual and cinema professions, or wishing to discover them, have registered. The participants expressed diverse aspirations,ranging from set decoration to acting and directing,highlighting the program’s appeal to a broad spectrum of cinematic interests.

From Vision to Reality: Exploring the Multifaceted Roles in Film Production

The program’s first speaker, Marc Barbault, a seasoned producer and director with experience dating back to 1979, shared his extensive knowledge of the filmmaking process. Barbault, who has worked with renowned directors like Claude Chabrol and Pierre Schoendoerffer, introduced the interns to the various stages of film production and the multitude of roles involved.

Beyond the director’s role,Barbault highlighted the importance of script supervisors,set decorators,costume designers,and other essential crew members. Delphine Camolli underscored the demanding yet rewarding nature of cinema professions, stating, Cinema professions are engagement and passion professions.They are based on a somewhat adventurous lifestyle. You have to be ready to move.

Delphine camolli emphasized the city’s commitment to empowering young people, stating that The city of La Ciotat addresses this message to young people: if you want, you can dare to consider working in the cinema professions. This initiative reflects a growing trend in the film industry to foster emerging talent and provide accessible pathways into the field.

According to a recent report by the Motion picture Association (MPA), the film and television industry supports millions of jobs and contributes billions to the global economy. Programs like the one in la ciotat are crucial for ensuring a diverse and skilled workforce to meet the industry’s evolving needs.

Looking Ahead: Future Opportunities for Aspiring filmmakers

Given the success of this initial session, La Ciotat plans to offer additional internship opportunities in the coming months.
