BMKG Analysis: Shallow Earthquake Due to Active Fault
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics agency (BMKG) has released its analysis of the earthquake, confirming a magnitude of 4.1. The epicenter was located on land, approximately 2 kilometers southeast of Bogor City, at a depth of 5 kilometers.
According to Hartanto, Head of BMKG Region II Tangerang, the earthquake is classified as a shallow earthquake, likely caused by activity along an active fault line. By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurs is a type of shallow earthquake due to active fault activity,
Hartanto explained.
As of 22:28 WIB, BMKG monitoring has not detected any aftershock activity. However, residents are advised to remain cautious.
Community Impact and Preparedness Measures
reports from residents indicate that the earthquake was felt with an intensity of III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in Bogor Regency, Bogor city, and Depok. An intensity of III MMI signifies that the vibration was felt indoors, comparable to the passing of a heavy truck.
Mayor Rachim has instructed the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to remain on high alert and prepared to respond to any potential disasters in the aftermath of the earthquake. This includes ensuring adequate resources and personnel are available to assist affected communities.
I ask the BPBD in this case to continue to be aware and anticipate if things we don’t want.
