The Mindfactory robotics team from the Baden region of Switzerland has emerged as a powerhouse in the European robotics scene, demonstrating exceptional skill and innovation at the recent First Lego League DA-CH final. Their performance raises the question: Are they the best robotics team in Europe?

Triumph at the DA-CH Finals

At the First Lego League DA-CH final, held in Siegen, Germany, from March 28-30, 2025, Mindfactory distinguished themselves by securing victories in three out of seven categories. This remarkable feat underscores their thorough expertise in robotics and STEM fields.

The competition brought together the top 30 robotics teams from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, all vying for supremacy in the MINT disciplines: mathematics, computer science, science, and technology. Mindfactory, fresh off their Swiss championship title, proved their mettle against formidable competition.

Key Victories and Near Overall Win

Mindfactory’s success was multifaceted,encompassing research,robot performance,and spontaneous problem-solving:

  • Best Research: The team impressed the judges with their innovative solutions for studying marine flow, including a groundbreaking biodegradable battery.
  • Robot-Game Winner: In the Robot-Game category, teams had to program their LEGO-based robots to complete various tasks related to the “submerged” season theme within a 2:30 time limit. Mindfactory’s robot excelled, achieving the most tasks and securing a decisive victory with a 20-point lead.
  • Live Challenge Winner: Mindfactory was the only team to successfully complete the Live Challenge, which required on-the-spot robot advancement and programming.

Despite their outstanding performance, Mindfactory narrowly missed the overall victory, ultimately securing second place. This near-win highlights their potential for even greater achievements on the global stage.

The Road to Cape Town: An International challenge

Mindfactory’s success at the DA-CH final has earned them a coveted spot at the international competition in Cape Town, South Africa. This event represents the pinnacle of the 2024/25 season and offers Mindfactory the opportunity to showcase their talents on a global stage.

However, the journey to Cape Town comes with a significant financial burden. The team requires 35,000 CHF to cover travel, accommodation, and other expenses. Mindfactory is actively seeking sponsorships to make their dream of competing in South Africa a reality.

Past experiance has shown that with determination and community support, mindfactory can overcome financial challenges. The team expresses gratitude to all sponsors who have contributed to their success and hopes for continued support as they prepare for the international competition.
