Nationwide Rollout of Free Flu Vaccines

The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) has detailed plans for the 2025 anti-flu vaccination campaign, emphasizing accessibility and inclusivity. As of Tuesday, April 1st, all vaccination centers in Montevideo will have the flu vaccine available.The rollout will extend nationwide starting Thursday, April 3rd.

The MSP underscores that vaccination is free, universal, and accessible at both public and private vaccination sites throughout the country, irrespective of an individual’s healthcare provider. This initiative aims to remove barriers to access and ensure widespread protection against influenza.

Protecting Vulnerable Populations

The primary goal of the vaccination campaign is to mitigate severe influenza cases, particularly among high-risk groups.These include individuals with underlying health conditions, young children, pregnant women, and older adults. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), seasonal influenza epidemics result in an estimated 290,000 to 650,000 respiratory deaths globally each year. Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent infection and reduce the severity of symptoms.

The MSP emphasizes that the vaccine prevents the presentation of serious flu forms, especially protecting people with risk factors, children, pregnant women and older adults.
