The Kremlin has acknowledged that Russian President Vladimir Putin presented former U.S. President Donald Trump with a portrait. The gift was reportedly conveyed to Steve Witkoff, a special envoy for Trump, during a recent visit to Moscow.

Dmitry Peskov,putin’s spokesperson,confirmed the exchange to the Associated Press,stating that the portrait was handed over to Witkoff earlier this month. Peskov declined to provide further details regarding the nature or significance of the gift.

Witkoff’s Revelation and Trump’s Reaction

The existence of the gift first surfaced during an interview between Witkoff and Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host, last week. Witkoff indicated that Trump was deeply moved by the portrait, describing it as “gorgeous.”

In 2018, a soccer ball given by Putin to Trump was scrutinized by the Secret service for potential surveillance devices before being passed on to Trump’s son.This highlights the security protocols surrounding diplomatic gifts, especially those exchanged between world leaders.

Such precautions are rooted in ancient incidents. A notable exmaple is the 1945 incident involving a carved U.S. state symbol gifted to then-U.S. Ambassador Averell Harriman by Soviet schoolchildren.
