In a move to strengthen its international relations, President Prabowo Subianto has formally appointed 31 new Extraordinary and Full Ambassadors of the Republic of Indonesia. The ceremony, held at the State Palace in Central Jakarta, signifies Indonesia’s commitment to actively engaging with the global community across diverse and strategic regions.

Key Appointments and Areas of Focus

The newly appointed ambassadors will represent Indonesia’s interests across a wide spectrum of nations and international organizations. Among the notable appointments are:

  • Junimart Girsang, a prominent figure from PDIP, will serve as the Ambassador to the Republic of Italy, with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Malta, San Marino Republic, Republic of Cyprus, and several key UN food and agriculture bodies including the Food and Agriculture Association (FAO), International Fund and Agriculture Growth (IFAD), World Food Program (WFP), and the International Institute for the Unification of private Law (Unidroit).
  • Manahan MP sitompul, a former Constitutional Court judge, has been appointed as the Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

These appointments reflect Indonesia’s strategic focus on engaging with key European nations and international bodies.

Oath of office and Commitment to National Interests

During the inauguration, President Prabowo administered the oath of office, emphasizing the ambassadors’ duty to uphold the Constitution and prioritize the nation’s interests. The oath, as dictated by President Prabowo, included a pledge to:

be loyal to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and will carry out all legislation with their selouss for the sake of Darmabakti to my nation and state.

Following the oath, each ambassador signed official minutes, formalizing their commitment to their new roles.

Government’s commitment to Diplomacy

The inauguration was attended by several high-ranking cabinet ministers, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga hartarto, and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, among others.This high-level attendance underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties.

Yusuf Permana, Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media Secretariat of the President, stated that the ambassadorial appointments are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance diplomatic relations and foster cooperation with kind nations worldwide. This initiative aims to strengthen Indonesia’s position on the global stage and promote its interests across various sectors.

Ambassadorial Mandate and Responsibilities

According to Presidential Decree no. 108 of 2003, Extraordinary and full-Power Ambassadors are appointed by the President to represent and advocate for the interests of Indonesia.Their responsibilities include:

  • Representing the nation, state, and government of Indonesia.
  • Protecting Indonesian citizens and legal entities in their respective host countries and international organizations.
  • Fostering diplomatic relations and cooperation.

These ambassadors serve as the President’s representatives, ensuring Indonesia’s voice is heard and its interests are protected on the international stage.
