Just a few days ago it seemed that the worst was behind Ewelina Woźniak.
After the dramatic fight with Eva Dourthe at the XTB KSW 116 gala, in which the Pole fought until the second round despite terrible pain, fans were relieved to hear about her release from the hospital. Unfortunately, the weekend brought a disastrous twist.
Urgent return to hospital and suspected hemorrhage
Przemysław Kosiński, the athlete’s manager and member of MMA Polska, published an entry on the X website in which he informed about the critical deterioration of his protege’s health.
“Over the weekend, Ewelina Woźniak’s condition deteriorated significantly. She began to feel severe pain, after consultation with thoracic surgery specialists and tests, she was taken to a hospital in Poznań and will probably undergo surgery related to an internal injury. Doctors suspect a rupture of the diaphragm, which is still causing internal bleeding,” wrote Kosiński, emphasizing that the entry was written with the athlete’s consent.
“God is testing me. Keep your fingers crossed,” commented the player herself.
Woźniak’s problems began on March 14 during the KSW 116 gala. Already in the first round of the fight against the Frenchwoman, the Pole suffered an injury, which – as it later turned out – had tragic consequences. Despite the paralyzing pain and breathing problems, Woźniak did not give up, wanting to finish the fight at all costs.
The first diagnoses after the gala sounded like descriptions from the battlefield: a damaged sternum, a hematoma in the mediastinum and bleeding into the pleura, from which doctors had to drain almost a liter of fluid with blood. The athlete later admitted that she fought in a state of hypoxia and that she made the decision to continue the fight on her own, taking full responsibility for it.
Although Woźniak returned home after her first hospitalization to recover, the current situation indicates serious complications. Suspected diaphragm rupture and ongoing internal bleeding are a direct health hazard that require immediate surgical intervention. Przemysław Kosiński asked on social media to keep fingers crossed for the athlete, because she is facing a difficult procedure.
