According to the Ministry of Health, a suicide emotionally impacts an average of 135 people, including 6 to 14 people from the immediate circle. Often surrounded by silence, fear, even shame, this reality has caused nearly 9,000 deaths in France in 2023 – a rate that has remained stable over the previous five years.

“There are still enormous taboos around suicide, even if everyone can be affected at one time or another. It is a multifactorial phenomenon, which manifests itself with a triggering event – for example a breakup or dismissal -, specific to the background and sensitivity of each individual. The scenario of taking the act is most often prepared, premeditated. The issue of prevention is therefore central, to break isolation, by implementing active, empathetic, non-judgmental listening”explains Mattea Savelli, who serves as a health manager within the 3114 respondent center and VigilanS.
