Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 – Black Suit Explained

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

When Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again hits Disney+ on March 24, there will be no shortage of astonishing surprises and plot twists involving Charlie Cox’s superhero character and the cast surrounding Matthew Murdock. But one of the first things that jumped off of the screen in the Marvel trailer(s) wasn’t just the intensity of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin.

Nope — nor was it the highly-anticipated and long-awaited return of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones to reuniite with her fellow Defender in the War for New York. It was Daredevil’s suit, and the fact it’s now black, not red, to begin Season 2.

In an exclusive interview with CBR’s Sean O’Connell, Cox explained the thought process behind Marvel and Disney finally introducing the world to the iconic black suit that has become so beloved as an alternate costume in the comic book realm.

Why Is Daredevil Wearing The Black Suit In Season 2?

“Thematically, I think it represents a much darker side to the character,” Cox said. “But darker in the sense that he’s unable to present himself to the world in the way that he has in the past. He’s unable to be a symbol. Well, he is able to be a symbol, but he needs to go back to his roots of hiding in the shadows.”

He also hints at a more visceral and unforgiving Daredevil, even beyond the grieving version in Season 1 that attempted to rediscover himself after the cold-blooded murder of Elden Henson’s Foggy at the hands of Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye, by order of Ayelet Zurer’s Vanessa Fisk.

“He’s being hunted — him and Karen Page are being hunted more than they’ve ever been hunted before,” Cox explained. “They are in more danger than they’ve ever been, i think. They probably stay in their in their safe house most of the day, and only come out at night. They’re just trying to survive.”

And survive they must, against all odds, but they won’t be alone — that much is certain.

Not only is Jessica Jones back for Season 2, but there are also rumors that Luke Cage (from the man himself, Mike Colter) and Iron Fist could be in the works for a return as early as Season 2, but more likely in Season 3. If that holds true, it will mark the first time Marvel has put The Defenders onscreen together since Marvel’s The Defenders ended on Netflix in 2017.

As far as filming goesDisney+ is wasting no time continuing its buy-in for Daredevil: Born Again. Despite the fact Season 2 will go live on March 24, they and Marvel Studios have already scheduled production to get underway on the third season at some point this spring, and this news was confirmed by Arty Froushan, the actor who portrays Buck Cashman in the series.

Buckle up folks, because a darker Daredevil is on the way in Season 2, black suit in tow, and Season 3 is apparently not far behind, likely set for a TBD release date in 2027.
