Parking Made Easy in Monaco: Apps, Artificial Intelligence and More

by Archynetys Economy Desk

In the small yet stunning Principality of Monaco, parking can be a challenge due to space constraints and aesthetic considerations. Nonetheless, there are around forty public car parks with nearly 20,000 parking bays scattered across the city-state. While on-street parking is limited, the usual rate for public car parks is €2.40 per hour, except for Sundays when it is free.

Car Park Rates

Whether you plan a trip including a rental in Cap Ferrat or a luxurious rental in Monaco, knowing where to park can save a great deal of time and hassle. With very few exceptions, all Monaco car parks charge similar rates. Parking charges range from €2.70 for 1hr15min to €7 for 2 hours. Beyond that, there is a sliding scale of charges, with 3-hour parking costing €11, and €14.50 for 4 hours. Thanks to the reduced night rates (between 7 pm to 8 am) of €0.70 per hour, parking won’t break the bank for evening events or overnight stays. Moreover, 24-hour parking is only €20 – not bad for the ritzy city-state. It’s worth noting that weekend parking rates are the same as those applied during the weekdays, and entry isn’t free on Saturdays or Sundays.

New Technologies Enhance Parking Experience

Several mobile applications like PayByPhone and Monapass have made paying for parking in Monaco more convenient. Through these applications, motorists can pay for their parking hours directly without having to visit parking meters. Additionally, they offer interactive maps that guide users to find the nearest available car park by displaying a flashing blue dot. This way, drivers can easily identify suitable parking close to popular tourist spots like the Prince’s Palace and the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.

In addition to mobile applications, artificial intelligence sensors are set to appear in the coming months. These advanced technological aids will significantly improve parking management. Alongside number plate scanning, which has been in operation for more than ten years at the entrances and exits of most Monegasque car parks, these sensors will increase efficiency and practicality for motorists.

Monthly Subscriptions

If you are planning a long stay trip, monthly subscription options are ideal. Different types of subscriptions are available depending on the users’ needs:

  • Principality Residents: The subscription for residents costs €112.50 per month, excluding discounts.
  • Employees: Employees can avail themselves of a subscription for €98 per month, providing them with 300 hours of parking.
  • Park-and-Ride Facility Users: For employees with a season ticket holder at the park-and-ride facility near Monaco Zac Saint-Antoine in Cap d’Ail, a discount of €42 is applicable.

New Les Salines Car Park: A Welcome Addition

Designed primarily for employees, the new Les Salines Car Park is a great addition to Monaco’s parking facilities. This multifunctional hub located on the western side of Monaco offers a car and bike park, bus station, electric charging points, and even a car wash. Spanning over fifteen levels, the car park accommodates up to 1,790 light vehicle spaces. Accessible through Boulevard du Jardin Exotique, this car park connects to the Exotic Garden Avenue Pasteur via the Galerie des Salines, which enables foot access to attractions like Monaco’s Cemetery and the new Princess Grace Hospital within minutes.

Note also that two express shuttles from the Monaco Bus Company serve the Monte-Carlo and La Condamine neighborhoods, providing quick and convenient transportation options for visitors and commuters alike. Promoting sustainable practices, each commuter receives ten free tickets upon exit that allow five passengers to make round trips to the city center using express shuttles or the number two bus.
