Fiber Optic Cable Production: New Industrial Unit Opens

The company FBR CABLES proceeded, Monday in Berrechid, to the inauguration of its new industrial unit for the production of fiber optic cables (CFO) and network cables, in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour.

Mobilizing a total investment of 200 million dirhams (MDH) and generating 165 direct jobs, this new site, which covers an area of approximately 15,000 m², brings together all of the company’s activities and brings its annual production capacity to 70,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables, with the ambition of covering nearly 60% of the needs of the national market, estimated between 120,000 and 130,000 kilometers per year.

Speaking on this occasion, Mezzour affirmed that the inauguration of this 100% Moroccan fiber optic cable production unit constitutes a strategic milestone for the industrial development of Morocco, stressing that this project is part of the implementation of the High Royal Guidelines aimed at strengthening the industrial and technological sovereignty of the Kingdom.

A reinforcement of the “Made in Morocco” label

The minister indicated that this new unit, which doubles national production capacity, strengthens the “Made in Morocco” label and positions the Kingdom as a regional export hub to Africa, adding that it is one of the best factories on the African continent in this area.

Mezzour also noted that fiber optic cables contribute to improving the internet connectivity of Moroccan households and businesses, highlighting the impact of the project on the modernization of national digital infrastructures.

For his part, the general director of FBR CABLES, Youssef Jannat, indicated that the new factory is equipped with the latest technologies and was carried out thanks to entirely Moroccan skills and capital.

He specified that this unit has an annual production capacity of 70,000 kilometers covering in particular optical fibers as well as category 6, 7 and 8 network cables, stressing that it is among the most important installations of this type in Africa.

Jannat also indicated that the company aims to strengthen its presence in West Africa by relying on its partnerships, indicating that FBR CABLES already carries out export operations to markets such as Guinea-Conakry, Burkina Faso, Mali and Gabon.

He added that this strategy is part of a vision of South-South cooperation, based in particular on the local production of components with high technical added value intended to be exported to West Africa for their transformation into finished products, in particular fiber optic cables.

Founded in 1991 in Bouskoura, FBR CABLES specializes in manufacturing various variants of cables suitable for different installation environments, including Outdoor, Aerial, Micro-cables and FTTH – Drop Cables.

The company covers a significant part of the needs of national operators, including Orange Maroc, INWI and Maroc Telecom.

FBR CABLES currently employs 124 employees and generates more than 500 indirect jobs via its network of local suppliers and partners. It actively participates in the training of national skills through technology transfer programs and training initiatives in partnership with players in the telecommunications sector.
