Lollobrigida had already won two Olympic medals before competing in Italy, including a silver medal in the 3000m and a bronze medal in the mass start at Beijing 2022. Her 3000m medal for the People’s Republic of China was the first medal won by an Italian speed skater in Olympic history.
However, at the end of January this year, she revealed in her Instagram post that she had even considered retiring from active duty after suffering from a viral infection.
She would have never guessed that her decision to “fight” would lead her to glory amidst the enthusiastic support of her home crowd in Italy. Not only did she win the gold medal, she also set a new Olympic record.
