Tet Flowers: Spring Market Buzzes | [Year]

* En Phu Tho : Observations in many locations in the province show that the work environment in the flower fields has become more pressing as harvest time approaches. Flower growers must constantly monitor the weather, adjust irrigation and fertilization regimes, provide shade, and control pests and diseases to ensure that flowers bloom at the right time and achieve the best quality.

In the Bo area, Kim Boi Commune, Ms. Bui Thi Nhat’s family has a long history of growing Tet flowers. After more than six years of experience in growing flowers, from the ninth lunar month, his family begins to prepare the land and sow seeds to ensure a harvest in mid-December. On almost 1,000 m² of land, previously earmarked for two rice harvests, Ms Nhat is taking advantage of the third harvest to grow more than 25,000 chrysanthemums for the Tet market.

According to Ms Nhat, growing flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year) requires careful attention to detail and strict adherence to technical procedures. From seed selection, soil preparation, fertilization, to light adjustment and watering, everything must be done at the right time so that the plants grow and develop evenly, producing large, beautiful and long-lasting flowers.

Ms. Bui Thi Nhat also shared: “To serve the Tet flower market, we prepare the soil and seeds in advance. My family mainly grows multicolored chrysanthemums. This work is arduous, but if the harvest is good and the price is fair, it provides a stable income for the family. On average, each Tet flower season earns the family about 35 million VND, much more than growing vegetables or food on the same area of land. Thanks to this, family life has gradually improved and we have the means to invest more in production.

Not only Ms. Nhat’s family, but also Tet flower cultivation has become a seasonal economic factor for many households in Bo area, Kim Boi commune. According to Mr. Bui Van Ha, head of the Bo area, taking advantage of the land after the rice harvest, for many years the inhabitants of the area have chosen to grow flowers in winter to supply the Tet market. Currently, around 20 households in the area are dedicated to growing flowers, and the surface area and production practically cover the consumption needs of the town and surrounding areas. “Thanks to the proximity to the market and convenient transportation routes, Tet flowers in the area sell quite quickly. Growing flowers not only generates higher income than growing vegetables, but also creates a vibrant production environment every time Tet arrives,” said Mr. Ha.

In addition to small producers, in recent years, some companies have also invested in large-scale flower cultivation, applying advanced techniques to supply the Tet market, such as Moc Chau Tropical Flower Joint Stock Company, branch in Nat Son commune, Phu Tho province. On an area of approximately 4 hectares, the company focuses on the cultivation of high-quality lilies, with the main varieties imported from the Netherlands, of various colors and beautiful shapes, meeting the needs of the mid- and high-end market segments.

Mr. Vi Van Truong, technician of Moc Chau Tropical Flower Joint Stock Company, branch of Nat Son Commune, commented that this year, the weather conditions from November have been quite favorable, which has led to good growth and development of flowers. Currently, the unit is focused on closely monitoring the evolving climate, adjusting irrigation and fertilization regimes appropriately to promote plant growth and ensure flowers bloom in time for Tet (Lunar New Year). Especially in the days before Tet, the weather is quite cold, so we must pay more attention to care to ensure that the plants develop as expected. We expect a favorable market for Tet and stable flower prices so that the company can continue investing in expanding production in the coming years.

Although not a major flower-growing region, during the Lunar New Year, many towns in Phu Tho Province, including Kim Boi District, bustle with activity as farmers tend to their flowers. They expect an abundant harvest, which will partly offset the losses caused by the October storms and floods.

According to local agricultural assessments, growing flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year) is highly economically efficient, generating profits two to three times greater than growing winter vegetables on the same area. Not only does it contribute to increasing the income of the population, but flower cultivation also creates seasonal jobs and promotes the transition towards more efficient practices that meet market demand.

With increasing consumer demand during the Lunar New Year, the development of sustainable floral production focusing on quality and diversification opens promising opportunities for farmers in Phu Tho province. These vibrant fields of flowers not only beautify the traditional Tet festival, but also provide sustenance, hope and expectations for a prosperous and satisfying new year for flower growers.

* En Vinh Long : The Spring Flower Market in Long Chau District (Vinh Long Province) is considered one of the main destinations in the province during the Lunar New Year. The market opens its doors from February 2 to 16 (that is, from the 15 to 29 of the twelfth lunar month). Since its opening, the shopping environment is vibrant, as gardeners bring their flowers and ornamental plants to the market, creating a vibrant spring atmosphere.

This year, the market offers a wide variety of flowers and ornamental plants from famous flower growing regions both within and outside the province, such as yellow apricot flowers from Binh Hoa Phuoc, ornamental plants from Cai Mon – Cho Lach (Vinh Long Province), and ornamental plants from Sa Dec (Dong Thap Province)… This helps meet the growing market demand and create a highlight for the Tet flower season.

With more than 820 stalls, the Long Chau Spring Flower Market has grown in both space and number of stalls. The stalls are arranged along various routes, making it easy for visitors to browse and shop. According to reports, almost 40% of the stalls are already occupied by vendors displaying their products, mainly bougainvillea, various types of chrysanthemums, bonsai and yellow apricot flowers.

Although the peak shopping season has not yet arrived, the flower market is quite lively. Many gardeners say they have proactively prepared their Tet flower supplies based on market demand, focusing on medium-sized ornamental plants at affordable prices. In recent days, the constant coming and going of trucks carrying flowers and ornamental plants has contributed to the lively Tet atmosphere.

Ms. Le Thi Anh Tuyet (Phuoc My Trung Commune, Vinh Long Province) said that this year she brought about 150 pots of bougainvillea of various colors to the market, with prices ranging from VND50,000 to VND1 million each. People usually choose medium-sized plants at an affordable price, so her family grows plants of different sizes to make them easier to sell. Most of the flowers are dark in color, creating a beautiful decoration for Tet (Lunar New Year). In recent days, many customers have come to see and buy, especially in the afternoons. He hopes the market will be good this year so traders and gardeners can enjoy a happy Tet.
Understanding customer demand, many nurseries this year have proactively divided their offerings into price segments, focusing on mid-range ornamental plants that fit most people’s spending capabilities.

Many stalls display prices publicly, making it easier for customers to choose and contributing to a transparent and comfortable buying and selling environment.

Mr. Le Dinh Thanh Long (Cho Lach Commune, Vinh Long Province) said he brought 300 to 400 small and medium-sized bonsai trees to the flower market. In recent days, it has been posting prices for customers to check out and choose.

Mr. Long commented: “Many people still think that bonsai are expensive, so they hesitate to ask. However, this year, the bonsai that have been launched on the market also offer many mid-price products, suitable for many customers. I clearly state the prices so that customers can see the value of the tree and buy it immediately if it suits them, without hesitation. I hope that a lot of flowers will be sold on the market this year, so that we can get more income to celebrate Tet and invest in production for the next year.”

Demand for yellow apricot trees was not as high at first as for fresh or paper flowers, but gardeners still expect it to increase when the trees begin to bud, making it easier to choose. Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu (Tan Ngai District, Vinh Long Province) said that this year he brought about 40 apricot trees to the market to evaluate the market. Observations show that apricot trees, with prices between VND2 million and VND3 million per tree, are attracting customer interest. In the last few days, he has sold more than 10 trees, a pretty positive sign.

Mr Hieu commented: “This year, because some apricot gardens bloomed early, people had doubts, but most of them bloomed in time for Tet. We have already removed the leaves and are just waiting a few more days for the buds to open, which will attract customers. At this price, we hope that many families will be able to purchase an apricot tree to display during Tet.”

The Long Chau neighborhood spring flower market is arranged along the central roads, facilitating trade and creating a spring destination for locals and tourists to visit, sightsee and take photographs.

In recent days, the number of people visiting the flower market has gradually increased and many young people take the opportunity to capture moments at the spring flower market, contributing to a more vibrant shopping environment.

Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Tuyet (Long Chau District, Vinh Long Province) said that since her home is nearby, she has been frequently walking around the flower market in recent days. According to her, the Tet shopping atmosphere has been lively these past few days. This year, the market has many beautiful flowers and the prices are reasonable, so she decided to buy a few pairs of flowers to decorate for Tet.

According to the Long Chau Neighborhood People’s Committee, the Spring Flower Market not only meets the demand for buying and selling flowers, ornamental plants and other products for Tet (Lunar New Year), but also creates a unique cultural space for the town every spring. Holding the annual Spring Flower Market allows organizations and individuals to display and present flowers, ornamental plants, agricultural products and traditional crafts, thus meeting the needs of residents and tourists for sightseeing and shopping during Tet and spring.

To ensure the safety and efficiency of the Spring Flower Market for the Year of the Horse 2026, the Long Chau District People’s Committee implemented preparations in advance, focusing on rational planning of stalls, ensuring safety, road safety and environmental hygiene. Local authorities diverted traffic, assigning specialized routes for flowers and watermelons to minimize congestion in the days leading up to Tet; and they encouraged sellers to display prices publicly, creating favorable conditions for people to buy with peace of mind.
