Iran says it has identified the leaders of the major protests that have rocked the country. Several of them are said to have been captured.
Ali Larijani, a member of the Shia Islamic dictatorship‘s National Security Council, describes it as Iran having “shown strong resistance when its national identity was threatened”, according to regime-loyal Press TV.
He claims that the “enemy” has tried to turn peaceful protests and (dissatisfaction with) prevailing economic difficulties into street violence, and blames US President Donald Trump, who he claims encourages violence.
Thousands of protesters have been killed in recent weeks of protests, according to exile organizations trying to keep records. Such information is difficult to verify as the internet was shut down when the protests gained momentum. (TT)
