There is a third type highlighted by political scientist Frédéric Charillon: intimidation of the madman. A manipulation very worrying since it consists of making oneself unpredictable, like Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. Regarding the Russian president, Charillon specifies: “Bullying the crazy person doesn’t mean he’s crazy“.
Donald Trump, on the contrary, fully embraces this strategy: “They won’t because they know I’m crazy“. But this intimidation has limits on the part of the American president: “Since he changes his mind every five minutes, after a while this intimidation doesn’t work anymore“.
