The ASL Brindisi promotes a day of study dedicated to CAR-T cell therapies, one of the most important innovations of recent years in the haematological and oncology field, which is opening up new treatment perspectives for patients suffering from refractory or relapsing haematological pathologies, often unresponsive to conventional therapies.
Thursday 29 January, at Palazzo Virgilio, in Corso Umberto I in Brindisi, we will talk about the adoption of CAR-Ts in regional clinical practice, a strategic challenge for the Apulian Regional Health Service: on the one hand it is necessary to guarantee fair and appropriate access to patients, through a structured organizational and logistical network; on the other hand, it is necessary to ensure the economic sustainability of the system, defining shared governance, funding and management models.
The scientific managers of the event are Domenico Pastore, director of the Hematology UOC of the Perrino hospital, and Giuseppe Tarantini, director of the Hematology UOC of the Monsignore Raffaele Dimiccoli hospital in Barletta and regional contact person for the REP (Apulian Hematology Network), the sponsoring body of the event.
The conference promoted by the ASL Brindisi takes place in this context, which brings together clinicians, healthcare managers, representatives of regional institutions and patient associations, with the aim of defining a guideline document for regional healthcare planning in the coming years, within the Apulian Hematology Network.
The multidisciplinary comparison will focus on updating the regional and national epidemiological picture in the hematological field; on the clinical indications and selection criteria for patients eligible for CAR-T therapy; on organizational and referral models for REP centres; on the financing mechanisms and economic sustainability of therapies; on health policy strategies for a structured and homogeneous adoption of CAR-Ts in Puglia.
The objective is to guarantee Apulian patients equal opportunities to access innovative and potentially life-saving treatments, in compliance with quality and safety standards, including specific accreditation paths (such as JACIE certification) and the role of transfusion medicine facilities.
The day will open at 9 with institutional greetings from Antonio Decaro, president of the Puglia Region, Donato Pentassuglia, councilor for Health and Wellbeing of the Region, Vito Montanaro, director of the Health Department of the Region, Paolo Stella, director of the Medicines, Medical Devices and Integrated Care Section Directorate of the Region, Maurizio De Nuccio, general director of the ASL Brindisi, Alessandro Delle Donne, general director of the IRCCS Giovanni Paolo II Tumor Institute of Bari, Arturo Oliva, president of the Brindisi Medical Association.
The event will end with a multidisciplinary round table, moderated by Domenico Pastore and Giuseppe Tarantini, dedicated to the current state of the Apulian centers and the involvement of the regional hematology centers (Bari, Barletta, Foggia, Tricase, Lecce), to the role of pharmaceutical companies; JACIE and CNT certification, to the prospects of an IT platform for the management of oncological transplants, to the patients’ point of view, with the intervention of Ail Brindisi.
The event is Ecm accredited and organized by Sanitanova Srl according to the principles of sustainable event management.
We thank the pharmaceutical companies for their unconditional support of the event.
