Eric Dane Misses ALS Event Due to Disease’s Impact

“This award is not just for me, but for my beautiful family and loved ones who fight”

The actor, known from the series Grey’s Anatomy in Euphoriawas to be honored at ALS Network’s Champions for Cures and Care Gala for his efforts to raise awareness of the disease. However, according to People, Eric canceled at the last minute “due to the physical reality of ALS” and because he didn’t feel well enough to go.

In a response to People, the event organizers said they are “deeply grateful to Dane for his courage, advocacy and continued commitment to the ALS community.” In his place, fellow actor Aaron Lazar, who also has ALS, accepted the award for Dane.

Eric did appear in a pre-recorded video message expressing his gratitude for receiving the award. “This award is not just for me, but for my beautiful family and loved ones who are fighting,” he said. “And it is for everyone who has courageously endured ALS, for every caregiver who puts their heart and soul into it day in and day out, and for every advocate who fights for progress.”

Eric previously tackled a guest role that comes closer to reality than ever. You can see it in the video below.
