Following the avalanche which swept away three people on the path leading to Mount Toubkal from the Imlil refuge on January 18, 2026, members of the 1st Atlas Hunters Battalion, specialized in mountain rescue and avalanche victim detection systems teams, immediately launched search and rescue operations, the Royal Armed Forces announced this Wednesday.
The operations were carried out in close coordination with local authorities, the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection, it is added.
Despite the difficult weather conditions and rugged terrain, search teams, after securing the trails leading to the avalanche site, were able to locate the missing people and recover their bodies.
