Paris 2024 bronze medallist Lee Zii Jia has suffered another early exit from a top level badminton tournament, losing in the first round of the India Open in New Delhi on Tuesday (13 January).

The Malaysian was beaten 13-21, 21-18, 18-21 by Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke in a match that lasted 62 minutes at the Indira Gandhi Arena.

It was Lee’s second first-round loss in as many tournamentsfollowing his early defeat at the Malaysia Open last week. His world ranking in men’s singles has dropped to number 144 after an injury-hit season, and he appeared cautious at times as he continues his comeback.
