The journalist Ana Peláezdirector for almost a decade of the La 2 program ‘Imprescindibles’ and current executive producer of RTVE Documentaries, has been appointed director of the Arts and Knowledge areawith the challenge of launching and directing the Corporation’s new cultural channel. The goal is for it to begin broadcasting next June.
The new management will depend organically on the director of Spanish Television and the content production area of Ana María Bordas. Ignacio Elguero He joins the Arts and Knowledge department as director of Cultural Initiatives.
New cultural channel
As the president of RTVE, José Pablo López, announced in his first parliamentary appearance, the new channel will be based on five major pillars, among them documental. To this end, we will work on expanding the collaboration agreement that RTVE has with the ARTE channel, without ruling out other associative formulas.
The channel will also bet on the performing arts and theaterwhere jewels from Studio 1 will be recovered, along with new productions that will be launched. Also in the Spanish cinemathrough RTVE’s participating film stock and thematic cycles.
Another of the pillars will be classical music and operawith a very important role of the RTVE Orchestra and Choir and also the great lyrical theaters of this country. The channel will bet on the new trendswhich will make visible the work carried out by Radio 3 through Radio 3 Extra.
RTVE is currently one of the few large corporations that does not have a specific channel dedicated to culture in its broadest sense. In the case of France and Germany, a specific channel was generated, the Arte channel; and the BBC and RAI also have it.
Ana Peláez
Professional with more than 30 years of experience at RTVE, Ana Peláez has a degree in Journalism from the San Pablo CEU University and a Master’s degree in Executive Leadership from ESADE.
She began her professional career as an editor for RNE in 1996. In 1997 she joined Spanish Television as an editor, where she worked for more than a decade in information services, ‘Agrosfera’, and other programs such as ‘The Adventure of Knowledge’. From 2009 to 2013 she was director of ‘Los oficios de la cultura’.
For eight years he ran the space ‘Essential’, from 2013 to 2021. The program was recognized with the National Television Award in 2019 for its work in bringing Spanish culture to the general public through documentaries about key figures of the 20th century and also achieved several Gold and Silver Dolphins in Cannes, Silver and Bronze Medals in Hamburg and Gold and Silver Medals in New York for its work.
During the last five years it has been executive producer of RTVE Documentaries and has created Promueve, the space for the online registration of film and documentary projects of the Corporation. Online project registration is now a reality for Film and Documentary projects.
