Italy Olympics Security Guard Dies of Heart Attack | 55-Year-Old

The Italian security guard, who was guarding one of the locations of the Winter Olympics in Italy in minus 12 degrees, died of a heart attack, reports the AP news agency based on the announcement of the organizers of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. The 55-year-old security guard was working on a construction site in the ski resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo, close to the site of the Winter Olympics. According to the Italian press, he died on the night of January 8, when minus 12 degrees were measured on the spot.

Organizers said the security guard died of natural causes, according to emergency services. “According to our information, it was a natural death, it was a heart attack. The investigation is ongoing,” said Andrea Varnier, CEO of Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, at the handing over of the ice hockey hall built for the Olympics. He added that they are waiting for the results of the investigations to officially reveal the specific cause of death.

Matteo Salvini, Italy’s infrastructure minister, called for a full investigation into the death of the 55-year-old security guard. The management of Cortina stated that they were deeply shaken by the incident.

The Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics will be held between February 6 and 22. The city will host competitions in curling, luge and women’s alpine skiing.
