The messenger WhatsApp has introduced new functions for group chats. The aim of the extensions is to simplify the organization within groups and to structure communication more clearly. The innovations primarily concern the identification of members, the design of messages and the planning of joint appointments.
Role identification for group members
One of the central changes is the introduction of so-called member tags. Users can give themselves a freely selectable name within individual groups that describes their role or function. This label is group specific and can be customized depending on the context. For example, family groups can be more clearly separated from sports or work chats without having to change the profile name. The tags are displayed directly in the group chat and are intended to help classify posts more quickly.
Text stickers and advanced scheduling
The update is supplemented by new text stickers. Individual words or short terms can be entered directly into the sticker search and sent as a graphic element. These self-created stickers can also be permanently saved in personal sticker collections. This expands a function that was previously limited primarily to prefabricated motifs.
Scheduling in groups is also being expanded. When creating events, senders can now set individual reminder times. This means that participants receive earlier information that is based on the respective event. This can help with digital meetings as well as with private appointments or joint activities.

The new features complement existing group tools such as sending larger files, sharing higher quality media, and voice and screen sharing. WhatsApp is thus further expanding its group functions and is aimed primarily at users who use the messenger not only for short messages, but also for coordination in everyday life.
