(Ulsan = Yonhap News) Reporter Jang Ji-hyeon = The Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute announced on the 29th that as a result of expanding the safety test for goat meat this year, all of them were judged to be ‘suitable’.

According to the researcher, the total number of goats slaughtered in Ulsan this year is 861, an increase of more than 400% in three years from 153 in 2022.

The City Health and Environment Research Institute observed that consumption of goat meat as an alternative health food has increased since the enactment of the ‘Dog Eating Act’ last year, and expanded goat meat testing this year.

First, 9 new microbial tests, including Staphylococcus aureus, were conducted on 113 goats.

The target for rapid testing of residual substances such as antibiotics was also expanded from 66 head to 100 head last year.

As a result of the test, it was found that the levels of microorganisms and residual substances in all meat were within the standard level, and there were no safety issues.

The research institute plans to continue conducting goat meat safety tests at the slaughterhouse production stage to block hazardous elements before distribution.

An official from the research institute said, “We will continue to expand inspections and research in the future to supply safe livestock products to citizens and help livestock farmers manage their livestock.”
