Indonesian Suspect Arrested After Deadly Incident Off Tanjung Rhu, Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR, February 1 – Law enforcement officials have made significant progress in the investigation following a perilous altercation off Tanjung Rhu, Banting, on January 24. One of two Indonesian suspects sought by police has been apprehended in Teluk Panglima Garang, Banting, late last night.

Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, Chief of Selangor Police, provided details of the suspect’s capture to Harian Metro. According to Hussein, the 35-year-old suspect entered Malaysia as a tourist but was detained to facilitate the ongoing investigation.

The investigation is nearing completion, and the documentation could be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor for further proceedings within the next week. Law enforcement is expected to remand the suspect at the Banting Magistrate’s Court today.

The clash began early on January 24 when an MMEA patrol vessel was rammed four times by another boat, later identified as being associated with the suspects. During this altercation, two foreigners allegedly attempted to assault MMEA officers using machetes.

Subsequent Discovery of Victims

Following the initial confrontation, MMEA received a tip-off about a boat adrift near Pantai Banting in Kuala Langat. Upon reaching the site, they found two men onboard—one deceased and the other critically injured and hospitalized in Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang.

Further Investigation Details

Investigators believe that the individuals were brought to the hospital’s emergency unit by a Toyota Vios around 7:30 AM on January 24. The police urge anyone with additional information to come forward to assist the ongoing investigation.

Datuk Hussein Khan provided further updates on the investigation. Fourteen witnesses from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) have been questioned, with some likely to be Reinterviewed.
