If victorious, the Vietnam women’s soccer team will set a record of winning the SEA Games for the fifth time in a row, which will be an important milestone in proving once again that Vietnam is the strongest country in women’s soccer in Southeast Asia. The match will start at 7:30 PM Vietnam time and will be broadcast live on VTV5 and FPT Play.
Additionally, on the day of the competition, the Vietnamese national team will participate in several important martial arts events. With the track and field and swimming competitions already concluded, martial arts disciplines such as Pencak Silat, Muay Thai, archery and fencing are becoming the focus of Vietnamese sports medal competition. Specifically, four finals are scheduled for Pencak Silat, six finals for Muay Thai, five semifinals for boxing, and four male wrestling athletes will participate in the preliminary rounds.
Additionally, disciplines such as archery, fencing and rowing are expected to see more medals as the competition for the overall medal rankings gradually takes shape.
At Pencak Silat, Nguyen Thanh Sang will compete in the men’s 80kg final, one of the most anticipated matches for the Vietnamese national team.
Despite frequent controversies surrounding referee decisions, Pencak Silat remains a very popular sport at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), known for its fierce competition and fierce rivalries between regional countries.
Another notable highlight of the competition day on December 17th is the Muay Thai competition. Vietnamese athletes will face strong competition from host country Thailand, where Muay Thai is considered the ‘national martial art’. Today’s finals not only have professional significance, but are also expected to clearly demonstrate the players’ fighting spirit even under high pressure.
Additionally, wrestling and fencing are traditional strengths of Vietnamese sports. At the 32nd Southeast Asian Games, the wrestling team maintained its leading position in the region by winning 13 gold medals.
In archery competitions, Vietnamese athletes competed in three main events. At 9:30 a.m., the women’s recurve archery team competed against the host country, Thailand, for the bronze medal. At 1 p.m., the men’s recurve archery team played against Indonesia in the team gold medal match. Next, at 2 p.m., Trieu Huyen Diep competed against Indonesia’s Dianda in the women’s individual recurve archery final.
In chess competition, the Vietnamese team will face the Philippines in the men’s standard floor doubles semifinals at 9 a.m. With a win, the Vietnamese team will advance to the finals at 3 p.m.
