Palermo Zara Strike: Inditex Workers Demonstrate

by Archynetys Economy Desk

The global protest of the workers of the Inditex group breaks out, a giant that has around 350 thousand employees and offices around the world. The event is organized in Italy by Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs together with other trade union organizations from various European countries.

Following a series of trade union meetings involving the European Works Council, a body that includes the acronyms of the various countries, a protest was decided which in Italy includes sit-ins in Milan, Rome and Palermo. The rally is scheduled for tomorrow, November 28, from 12 in via Ruggero Settimo in front of the Zara store, one of the group’s brands together with other well-known brands such as Pull&Bear, Bershka, Stradivarius and Zara Home.

There are around 500 workers involved in Sicily. The protest arises because for several years at a European level the unions, through the European Works Council, have asked the group to provide paycheck bonuses to employees in exchange for billions in profits recorded by the group.

“The workers are the beating heart of the company. It is thanks above all to them – declare Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs – that the companies of the Inditex group boast profits of several billion euros. What the workers are asking for is a sign of social justice”.
