The results of this year’s Children’s Mile campaign were presented during the 30th UN Climate Summit in Belém, Brazil – A total of almost four million children’s miles from eleven countries were collected this year. The new mileage record set by almost 250,000 kindergarten and primary school children impressed Noura Hamladji, deputy head of the UN Climate Secretariat, who thanked the children with a video message and encouraged them to continue their commitment. Bielefeld, as a member of the Climate Alliance, was also involved with 30 primary schools and daycare centers, which together were able to collect 42,359 “Green Miles”.
The Europe-wide campaign by the Climate Alliance city network enables children to travel their everyday journeys independently and in an environmentally friendly way. By collecting Green Miles on foot, by bike or by bus and train, she playfully conveys that everyone can contribute to climate protection and a fair world.
